37. Liverpool Fc’s Shane Macgowan: A Trading Maestro’s Tale – Jurgen Klopp is set for a major overhaul of Liverpool in the summer transfer window, with several first-team stars expected to leave at the end of their contracts.

The Reds are expected to be busy at the end of the season as Klopp reshuffles his pack ahead of the 2023/24 season, with some players out of contract. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Adrian could leave as soon as their contracts expire in June.

Milner, 37, has been heavily linked with a move to Brighton and will be reunited with former team-mate Adam Lallana at the AMEX Stadium. The former England international has won every major award available at Anfield.

However, Milner’s departure leaves the number 7 shirt vacant and available for potential new signings. Luis Suarez wore that shirt for the four years he was at the Reds – before Milner’s arrival.

Meanwhile, Keita has struggled for fitness this season and will leave Liverpool in 2018 after five years at RB Leipzig. Seeing this, number 8 was released. Steven Gerrard was the last owner of that shirt before Keita, and the former Reds midfielder wore it for 11 years.

Firmino is leaving the number 9 shirt. The Brazilian is expected to join Barcelona at the end of the season, despite Klopp’s efforts to keep him. Firmino scored 109 goals in 360 games during his time with Liverpool, winning the Champions League, Premier League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Liverpool have not had a number 10 since Sadio Mane joined Bayern Munich last summer. The Reds hired a new attacking midfielder in the summer.

Like many new central midfielders, Klopp is ready to prioritize that position. The Reds suffered a major blow in their pursuit of Jude Bellingham on Wednesday afternoon when it was confirmed that he is closing in on Real Madrid.

Alexis McAllister, Kelvin Phillips and Bruno Guimaraes are among those linked with a move to Anfield, with the latter rumored to be in for an £88m move. Klopp was asked about Liverpool’s summer transfer plans ahead of the Reds’ 4-3 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

“[Meeting Henry] was good, he’s a good guy,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “It’s really funny to me that the expectation in a discussion like this is that I sit there and put my ideas on the table and John says, ‘How much is this?’ How much is that?’ That is not so.

“We’ve got a really good relationship and he’s a really good guy who cares a lot about us and we’ll do business. I don’t understand, football is crazy – it’s always been crazy – but everyone expects it” “Ok Liverpool aren’t doing well so they need five, six or seven players to bring them.

“I think it’s a little bit to be honest for Chelsea because it’s not going well, I think they’re a great team, but on the other hand it’s good to see that you can’t just put the best players together and think it’s working. You’ve got to build a team and the guys there they underestimated him and gave their coach an almost impossible job.

“You can’t have two dressing rooms, you can’t train on two pitches, you have to build relationships, you have to build team spirit and that’s why I’m a bit pleased.”

Shane Patrick Lisaght McGovan (25 December 1957 – 30 November 2023) was an Irish musician best known as the singer and songwriter of a Celtic punk band. Pogues McGowan’s songs were influenced by Irish history, Irish nationalism, the Irish diaspora and life in London.

Born in Glendola, Ct., part of Ireland, McGowan joined the punk band Nipple Erectors in 1982 before forming the Pogues. When he formed the Pogues, he drew on his Irish heritage and changed his early punk style to a more traditional sound with instruction from his extended family. Between 1985 and 1987, he co-wrote the Christmas hit single “Fairytale of New York”, which he performed with Kirsty McCall. Other notable songs he performed with the Pogues include “Dirty Old Town”, “Sally McLennan” and “The Irish Rover” (with The Dubliners). The 1988 release of the Pogues’ most critically acclaimed album, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, marked the peak of the band’s commercial success.

During the 1991 tour, the Pogues fired McGowan for unprofessional conduct. He then formed a new band, Shane McGowan and The Pops, with whom he recorded two studio albums. In 2001, McGowan rejoined the Pogues for a reunion show, remaining with the group until 2014. He has also produced solo material and collaborated with artists such as Joe Strummer, Nick Cave, Steve Earle, Sinead O’Connor and Ronnie Drew. McGowan received the 2018 Ivor Novello Inspiration Award and Lifetime Achievement Award. After years of declining health, he died of pneumonia in November 2023, aged 65. President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins paid tribute to him, calling him “one of the greatest songwriters in music”.

His father was from Dublin and his mother from Tipperary. Her mother, Teresa, worked as a typist in a convent, and was previously a singer, traditional Irish dancer and model.

His father, Maurice, was middle-class and worked in the office of the department store C&A; He was, in his own words, a “local baker”. McGowan’s younger sister Siobhan McGowan became a journalist, author and songwriter. McGowan grew up in Tipperary, Ireland until he was six and a half years old.

McGowan lived in various parts of the South East such as Brighton, London and the Home Counties and attended English public schools. In 1971 he left Holmwood House Preparatory School in Langton Grey, Kt, on a scholarship to Westminster School.

He was first seen in public at a concert by London punk rock group The Clash in 1976, where his earlobe was damaged by future Mo-Dates bassist Jane Crawford. A photographer took a picture of him covered in blood, which made it into the local newspaper with the headline “Cannibal at Clash gig”.

Soon after, he joined the punk band Nipple Erectors (later known as ‘The Nips’), which included bassist Shane Bradley.
