Friday afternoon, the Wayne Township Fire Department was dispatched to an accident in the northbound lanes of I-465 south of Rockville Road.

According to the department’s public information officer, Eric Bannister, the driver escaped the vehicle with minor injuries and did not need to be extricated from the vehicle.

It is unclear what caused the accident, but it appears to have been rear-ended, with the car ending up under the back of a semi-truck.

On Nov. 17, first responders from the Wayne Township Fire Department assisted another driver involved in a side-by-side car accident at the 9.8 mile marker on I-465 south of the Sam Jones Expressway.

Captain Todd Taylor of the Wayne Township Fire Department says traffic accidents are becoming more common as speeds and traffic increase.

“The more volume you have, the faster things stop,” Taylor said. “When they stop too early, no one is ready for it.”

Traffic accidents can often be fatal or lead to serious head and neck injuries for drivers and passengers.

“The problem is that when the car is less than half, the procedure to save it is very difficult,” Taylor said. “We have loads of up to 60,000,000 pounds on that trailer that we have to walk from the vehicle to get the victim out.

They use new tools such as a hydraulic lift to lift the truck from the car as well as dinghies.

Taylor said the tool allowed them to cut rescue time from an hour to just 20 minutes.

Taylor said. “It’s time to get out, it’s time to go from the scene to the hospital that will save someone’s life.” it’s wonderful outside.”

Taylor said the best thing to do is stay out of the truck’s blind spot and give them some space, and when you see a fire truck or ambulance responding to a scene, give them some space to go.
