The course has a strong emphasis on ecological and social design thinking and how we can apply it to different parts of our lives and society. It offers us an opportunity to address the climate and biodiversity crisis, and to develop our own healthy response to these challenges.
Permaculture Education Institute
Each module consists of 7 to 10 hours of direct live teaching and some compulsory and voluntary work. You will work individually and in small groups, research different topics and design a project of your choice, which you will present to the group in the final module. In each of the 7 modules we will have guest speakers, some of whom live in different parts of the world and can share their practice and opinion.
Sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and usually last 2.5 hours with some variations. All times are UK/London times; Participants from all over are welcome and only enrich the course.
Certification requires attending sessions and completing other courses, including small online quizzes to test understanding and assess learning. Sessions will be recorded so you can catch up if you miss a session. In the final module, you will create a plan for a project of your choice to put your learning into practice. You will also be required to complete and report on two relevant practical mini-projects of your choice.
Each module will include presentations, demonstrations, design exercises and small group questions, practical exercises to be completed at home, optional reading lists, optional video material.

The course follows the syllabus set out by the UK Permaculture Association and is accredited by the UK Permaculture Association with the internationally recognized Permaculture Design Course Certificate. Your main instructor on the course is a UK Permaculture Association certified trainer.
Michele has studied landscape architecture and environmental planning with a particular interest in the relationship between ecological and cultural regeneration. During her studies, she encountered permaculture and was drawn to its ability to connect ecological design, community/village building, social justice and personal change.
Michel has traveled extensively, staying in eco-communities in India, South Asia and Europe, learning and applying the ideas and knowledge of permaculture design and deep ecology wherever possible.

When choosing a price, be aware of what it is: the course offers 55 hours of live teaching and mandatory and voluntary assignments; The course will have many teachers who will bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience; and I will be leaving with a Permaculture Design Certificate from the UK Permaculture Association. Payment at the standard rate of £420 is a total of less than £8 per hour of live learning and covers only our costs (including the base fee for the facilitation team). Harvesting Experiences And Insights From Gen’s First Permaculture Design Course (pdc)
You need a computer, internet access and the ability to use zoom. Most of the material you will receive in the course will be digital. Between modules 2 and 6 you have to do 2 practical projects. They can be projects of your choice and don’t have to be big. Depending on what you have decided, you need to buy materials such as compost, soil, seeds, plant pollen. Many of these materials can also be sourced second hand to keep additional costs down.
On the next module, you need to create a design that you can work on first if you want. For this you can use computer software, of course paper, pen, ruler and tracing paper. You can also use parchment paper instead of tracing paper. You then need to scan or photograph these models to present them online.
Yes, for each module you will receive a PDF file with additional information on the material covered. You will have access to an online learning platform that will include other courses as well as links to articles, videos, movies and book recommendations. You will have access to all videos and slideshows so you can re-watch the sessions at your own time.
Online and in-person courses are different and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The online course allows you to retake the session at your own time. If you miss a session, you can easily make it up. Visiting professors, people who are not called in person for courses, will work on different projects. An in-person course has the advantage that people are more likely to develop a sense of community and connection. Although there will also be an opportunity to take a break from the main classes with an online group. On the individual course, group design for a specific project.
