Critical chain project management (CCPM) has emerged in recent years as a prominent approach to improving time management in construction projects. This methodology focuses on improving project schedules, and its impact on construction projects is studied by reviewing the literature in the past five years. However, theoretical understanding alone may not be sufficient to promote the adoption of CCPM in the field. Therefore, a pilot study was conducted to evaluate the practical impact of CCPM on reducing construction project duration. The study included the use of CPM in the planning phase and the use of CCPM in the implementation phase of finishing works (drywall, carpentry, painting) in three identical residential buildings. A significant savings of 36 days (about 20%) was achieved during project completion and the project was completed in 151 days using CCPM compared to 187 days using CPM. The study was limited to backfill works and further studies are planned to be conducted to verify the applicability of CCPM to other construction works. Establishing ongoing collaboration between researchers and practitioners in the construction industry is important because research findings must be effectively applied in real-world scenarios.

If one of these constraints does not work as intended, it can cause an imbalance between the other two, which can lead to negative results in the project’s key performance indicators (KPIs) [8, 9]. Constraints are factors that can affect project implementation, so they must be managed at the initial stage [10]. Time is one of the most important constraints on construction projects, as delays can negatively impact cost, scope and/or quality. Statistics show that in 2021, 84% of projects exceeded their budget and 72% took longer to complete than expected [11].
